Buying a Christmas present for a child you do not see every day can be tricky. Toys go in and out of favour quickly, and it is hard to know what they already have. Clothing and everyday accessories are a practical alternative: they get used, and a good piece can be handed on when it is outgrown.
Here are some ideas from the SMUDGE range, grouped by age, all under £50. Prices are correct at the time of writing.
For babies (0 to 24 months)
Babies grow so quickly that clothes in a size or two ahead are often the most useful gift, as many new parents receive lots of newborn sizes.
- Baby Grow – Wordmark, £16. A white short sleeve baby grow in 100% organic cotton, with the SMUDGE wordmark across the chest. Sizes run from 0–3 months to 18–24 months.
- Baby Bib – Splash Logo, £12. A printed bib with a towel cloth back for mealtimes. It is an easy small present, or something to add to a larger gift. As with any bib, always supervise your baby while they are wearing it.
- Fleece Baby Blanket – Splash Logo, £38. A double-layer fleece blanket, 100 x 73 cm, with a white printed front and a cream, blue or pink back. It works well for the pram, the car or the sofa. Please note it is not for use in a cot with babies under 12 months.

For younger children (2 to 8 years)
For this age group, a warm top is a safe choice for winter. Sweatshirts and hoodies get worn over and over, at home and on the school run.
- Kids' Pullover Hoodie – Splash Logo, £38. A heavyweight 300 gsm hoodie in 100% organic cotton, in Athletic Grey or Oat, with the colour splash logo on the front. Sizes run from 3–4 to 11–12 years, so it also suits older children.

For older children and teens (9 to 16)
Older children usually have firm views on what they will wear, so it can help to choose something useful rather than something to wear.
- Zebra Backpack – All-Over Print, £49. A lilac backpack with small zebras printed all over the front. It has a laptop compartment for up to 15 inches, a front zip pocket and padded straps. It is a standard adult-size backpack, so it suits older children best.

When you are not sure what to choose
If you do not know their size, or you would rather they chose for themselves, a gift card is the simplest option.
- SMUDGE Gift Card, £10, £25 or £50. The card is sent by email with a code to use at checkout, so there is nothing to post. They can pick their own design and size from the whole range. If they spend less than the card value, the balance stays on the code for next time.
Because the card arrives by email, it is also a good choice if you are buying close to Christmas.
A few tips before you order
- Check the size. Every piece is made to order and printed once you order, so it is worth checking the size before you buy. Each product page has a short size note for that style.
- Order in good time. As each piece is printed to order, allow a few working days for it to be made before it is dispatched, plus delivery time. Postal services are busier in December, so ordering earlier gives you more room.
- Think about combining gifts. We offer free UK delivery on orders over £50, so a bib and a baby grow alongside a blanket, or a hoodie for one child and a beanie for another, can be sent together.
- Size up for babies. A size or two ahead means the gift will fit for longer, and it is less likely to duplicate the newborn clothes they already have.
